The flow induced by the moving plate is assisted by a constant pressure gradient along the flow direction. Four different combinations of thermal boundary conditions are investigated: (a) plates at different temperatures, (b) stationary plate at a fixed temperature and moving plate subjected to a constant heat flux, (c) stationary plate at a fixed temperature and convection at the moving plate, and (d) convection at both plates. Besides the velocity and temperature profiles, dimensionless results are presented for the entropy generated due to heat transfer, the entropy generated due to viscous dissipation, and the total entropy generation. These results illustrate the effect of pressure gradient, temperature asymmetry, heat flux, convection Biot numbers, and ambient temperatures. For certain combinations of thermal variables, the total entropy generated is minimized.

The present research investigates second law analysis of laminar flow over a backward facing step (BFS). Entropy generation due to separation, reattachment, recirculation and heat transfer is studied numerically. Local entropy generation distributions were obtained by solving momentum, energy, and entropy generation equations. The effect of dimensionless temperature difference number (τ) and Br...

A novel method for correlation analysis using scale-dependent Rényi entropies is described. The method involves calculating the entropy of a data distribution as an explicit function of the scale of a d-dimensional partition of d-cubes, which is dithered to remove bias. Analytic expressions for dithered scale-local entropy and dimension for a uniform random point set are derived and compared to...

Identification of epistasis in ischemic stroke using multifactor dimensionality reduction and entropy decomposition.

We investigated the genetic associations of ischemic stroke by identifying epistasis of its heterogeneous subtypes such as small vessel occlusion (SVO) and large artery atherosclerosis (LAA). Epistasis was analyzed with 24 genes in 207 controls and 271 patients (SVO = 110, LAA = 95) using multifactor dimensionality reduction and entropy decomposition. The multifactor dimensionality reduction an...
